study questions:

For the Next Lesson: Philippians 3:1-1

1. Read Philippians 3:1. What does it mean to you to rejoice in the Lord? Try and describe this in two or three different ways.

2. When Paul says this is a safeguard to you, is he talking about rejoicing in the Lord or all that he has said so far in the letter? Whichever answer you come to, now say how that will be a safeguard. Try and describe how this has personally been a safeguard for you.

3. Read Philippians 3:2-6, Galatians 1:6-10, 2:11-3:5 and Acts 15:1-5. Who do you think the dogs are that Paul is referring to? What do you think they were trying to teach the Philippians? Why is this type of teaching always appealing to Christian believers?

4. Read Philippians 3:4-9. List all of Paul’s human accomplishments. How does he feel about these things? How does he want to be found and what kind of righteousness does he desire? What kinds of lessons can we learn from this?

5. Read Philippians 3:10-11. These are difficult verses to interpret. What do you think Paul means?
